Science in Dutton

In Science this term we are learning about states of matter. Today, we have looked at particle theory and the properties of solids, liquids and gases.  The children enjoyed acting out how the particles behaved and trying to compress gas and liquid in a syringe. We also looked at unusual items that have properties of more than one state of matter.

First Dutton Update of 2024!

Happy new year! Welcome to the new spring term.

The children have all settled back in wonderfully.  It has been lovely to hear about what they have all been up to on their break.

We are currently looking at a new book in guided reading called The Iron Man.  We are doing four sessions a week of guided reading focusing on different aspects each day.  This week we have been looking at predicting what the story maybe about based on book reviews and the reading the blurb.  We have also looked at how the author uses language to create a calm introduction. This is a wonderful book and I’m looking forward to sharing it with the children.

Following from our focus on Winter’s child last term, we are focusing on a book called The Stone age Boy in English. This will build on the knowledge the children have learnt previously in history and their narrative writing skills they were mastering in English last term.

The children will be coming home with maths homework this week.  As normal, this is due in on Wednesday.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

See you next week.

Final Dutton update of 2023!

That’s a wrap on the Autumn term! The last few weeks have been a little manic to say the least, with varies timetable changes and trips here and there. This was rounded off nicely on Monday with a session creating Christmas decorations with friends of St. Peter’s church.  The children all had a great time and it is always lovely to hear such compliments about the children’s behaviour and manners.

I hope everyone has a wonderful rest and recharge over the festive break. I look forward to hearing all about when we come back to school in January.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year,

Mrs McLean

Food technology

This week, we have looked at how we preserve food and how this has changed over the years in design and technology. The children looked at a range of different food packaging and analysed what was included. The class then got to create their own 3d packaging.

The children had a go at creating four different recipes. They made humous, fruit kebabs, vegetable crisps and fruity popcorn. It was lovely to see the children trying new flavours and smelling the different spices. I hope they all enjoyed it.

Geography Day in Dutton

On Thursday, we spent the day looking at Geography. We focused on the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer and the continents that are located in these areas. The children did their own research on their chosen country in North or South America. It was lovely to see the children so engrossed in a new topic.

This weeks homework will be a short reading comprehension.

Have a lovely weekend.

Dutton round up!

What an exciting week!

We had a wonderful pantomime visit on Wednesday to see Rumpelstiltskin at the Festival Drayton.  The children behaved impeccably and had a great time.  It was lovely to hear them joining in with the songs and lots of crowd participation.

We also had a visit from Barry, from Shropshire Fire and Rescue.  He spoke to the children about how to keep safe in the event of a fire and what they can do to ensure their environment is as safe as possible.

Have a great weekend.

Dutton Class Update

Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend parents appointments last week.  It was really well attended and great to catch up with you all about your children’s progress and school life.  As ever if you have any queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

This week we have been continuing our focus on the Vikings in our history project Invasions.  Our history lessons always create really interesting topics of conversation which is lovely to hear.

In Maths, the year 3’s are focusing on the 8x table whilst the years 4’s are looking at the 7x tables.  We have introduced division recently too. I will link the songs we sing in class, I apologise in advance!

Have a lovely weekend all.

Dutton round up

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful half term break.  The children have came back to school well rested and with such enthusiasm for learning which is wonderful to see.

This week, we were lucky enough to have a visit from a band who played a live concert to the children.  It was wonderful to see the children getting involved and singing along. If your child is interested in getting involved with any music or singing lessons please contact the office for more details.

We also had visitors from the Royal Irish Regiment on Friday when they delivered an assembly for Remembrance day.  The whole school were led out to the playground by the regiments pipe player where the children took part in a minutes silence. It was a very moving experience.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Dutton update.

We made it! That’s a wrap of the first half term of the year! It’s been wonderful getting to know the new pupils and having the year 4’s to help and support the new year 3’s on the beginning of their key stage two journey.  I have been particularly impressed with the whole classes attitude to learning and their eagerness to learn new topics.

We have completed our English work focusing on the book Coming to England by Floella Bejamin and I am so proud of the final letters the children produced.  It’s amazing seeing how much their writing has has improved already.  Next term, our new book is Winters Child with the focus on fantasy narrative writing.

Our PE days will remain a Tuesday and Friday, with the focus on netball and gymnastics.  I really enjoyed seeing the children create their own street dance in our last PE session this term.

I haven’t set any homework for the half term break so the children have a chance to relax and unwind after a busy half term at school.  However, it would be beneficially for your child to still read as much as possible.

Have a great break.
