Easter Egg Hunt!

HAPPY EASTER FROM CARADOC!!

Caradoc took part in an Easter Egg hunt at the end of term to celebrate the Easter holidays!
*YUM*

They had to search for pictures which spelt out a word. Once they had done this, there was a code on the back to open a padlock to win the delicious prizes! Well done for working as a team Caradoc and thank you to the PTA for organising and providing!

Building Beach Huts!

This Term for our Design and Technology (D&T), the children have been tasked with building a beach hut. We studied existing beach huts, explored their structure, how they might be made, how they have been decorated and what they look like as a finished product.

The children thought about the materials we have available at school and we searched for the best options to give us a sturdy and durable beach hut.

They designed a beach hut and chose from two different types of wood to create their frame. They used junior hacksaws and glue guns to being to bring their designs to life!

They then attached the sides of the beach hut and added a roof to the top. Some used glue sticks and some chose to use tape or masking tape. They all tried their hardest and worked mostly independently (apart from when using a junior hacksaw and hot glue gun!). Take a look at the process below.

Science Farm Live!

This morning Caradoc took part in a Science Farm Live with thousands of other children via live stream!

We learnt about what animals are fed, where their food comes from, what animals live on a farm and even got to experience ‘a day in the life of a farmer.’

We got to ask live questions to the key speakers and guest farmers and learnt lots about the world around us as part of our science lesson.

World Book Day

This week we celebrated World Book Day!

Thursday 07th March 2024

We had some story-tellers visit from Housman class. We were delighted to hear three brilliant stories that children in Housman class had written themselves. Caradoc children had lots of lovely comments for them. We spent time reading new books, create our own book covers and ended the day with a lovely story time.

Friday 08th March 2024

We began the day with a parade! We saw some wonderful costumes and celebrated everyone making an effort to take part in world book day! Take a look at some of Caradoc’s costumes below! Even some of the teachers dressed up – check out our photo at the bottom of this post!

Exploring Coastal Erosion

Caradoc set up an experiment to explore the process of erosion. We set up a little town on the coast and then tried to protect the town using rocks. We hoped this would slow down the process of erosion. We found it did slow it down because when we then took away the protective rocks, there was much more destruction from the waves we created.

Science – Plants

This term Caradoc are exploring ‘Plants and their parts!’

We have started to learn the different types of plants and flowers. This week we focussed on a particularly common plant; grass.

We went exploring and discovered different areas where grass might go.

We discussed why grass might have been growing well or not well in these areas.

We took photographic evidence of what we found.

We answered questions and recorded what we had found.

We learnt that grass needs sunlight, open spaces and water to grow well.

Code Breaking! #~@/”¬

After finishing their poems in the first week of term, Caradoc started their writing topic ‘Beegu’.

We found a message from an alien which we had to code break, figuring out what he was saying! Poor Beegu is lost and needs help finding his mummy and his way back home. They were able to write out the message and correct punctuation.

Properties of Paper; Science Experiment

31.01.24

Today Caradoc carried out an experiment on five different types of paper; tissue paper, card, cardboard, sugar paper and paper towels. This forms part of our learning about materials and their properties.

We had to test the papers three times for strength, texture and absorbency! They were able to read and follow instructions, work as a team and find the answers they needed about different paper types!

Reading Reading Reading!

Reading happens everyday, all day in our classrooms!

It happens in maths..

It happens when we Read for Pleasure..

Come along to our next reading open morning!

It happens in English..

It happens in our reading lesson…

It happens in our wider curriculum…

reading instructions and information about paper!

Jumping for Joy!

Our Gymnastics lesson this week was focussed on balance, developing jumping and teamwork!

The children worked very well on their own to develop their jumping styles:

Then then used excellent team work and balance to walk across the harder balance side of the bench! Great work today Caradoc.
