Monday 1st March

Good Morning everyone!

I hope you have all had a good weekend and you are all well.   At last, we have come to the last week of remote learning.  The children will be back in school next week and we are really looking forward to the class all being back together.  I have put the activities for today on the homework page.  As always, if you need anything, we are here to help.

Keep safe all and kindest regards

Happy St. Davids Day everyone!

Here is an assembly for the children to watch and enjoy:

Here are some ideas for activities today! Have fun!

Phonics

  • Try practising the following: s, a, i, n, t,  and also d for David with the actions.  Use your home-made flash cards or printed ones if you prefer.
  • Try using your finger to draw the sounds in some flour or shaving foam if you have any.
  • Learn this rhyme if you can.

A crafty idea for today if you feel arty – St David’s Day theme

Would you like to make a daffodil similar to the ones in the pictures with your child?  It’s fairly easy and just requires paper, crayons or paint and an egg box section.  A grown up’s hands may well be needed for difficult cutting.

If you prefer, you could have a go at making this Welsh Dragon from a paper plate and colour or paint it red.

Enjoy your afternoon:

You could maybe try some Welsh cakes and enjoy a story this afternoon.  The supermarkets do nice ones but here is a recipe if you would like to make some.  You can substitute sultanas for anything you like or just have them plain with jam.

That’s all for today! Stay safe everyone.

Good Morning!  Here are some ideas and suggestions for activities today.  As always, if you need to contact us, we are always here and happy to help.

Phonics

  • Recap the following: s, a, t, p, i, n, m and also d with the actions.  Use your home-made flash cards or printed ones if you prefer.
  • If you have a box at home in the recycling, you could make a dice like the ones in the picture and your child can roll these and then tell you the sound they see.

You could also make your own game similar to the pictures below.  A simple drawn one would be absolutely fine.  Roll the dice (or pick a number card) and see who wins!  Remember! You have to be able to say the name of the sound you land on.

  • Another idea for letter formation practice of the above sounds is to use a wet cloth and ‘wipe’ the table or work surface in a ‘s, a, t, p, i, n, m or d’ formation.

An activity to try today:

Understanding the World –Habitat

We are beginning to think about the animal kingdom and we are starting with animal habitats.  Can you help your child to make a habitat or home for a small teddy or toy they have.  This could be inside or out.  Could you ask your child questions about what shelter they would need, what food they would need, what climate will they live in? Will it be warm or cold where their teddy lives? What else will they need to be comfortable?  The children can let their imaginations run away as this is an imaginary habitat for their favourite teddy or toy.

Fine Motor Control Activity ideas

  • Here is an idea for your afternoon if you would like to try it with your child: Put some mall waterproof toys into some soapy water and your child can use a toothbrush to give them all a scrub a dub dub.  The children will probably enjoy messing around in the water and it will encourage the use of their fine motor skills too.
  • You could wrap their toys tightly in foil and get them to pick it off slowly. This is great to exercise those little fingers.

Take care all and thank you for your time.

Monday 22nd February

Good Morning everyone!

I hope you have all had a good half term and you are all well.   Here we are again at the start of a new half term and Spring is almost here.   Who could have predicted all of this would happen this time last year.  I really hope we can be back together soon and that the children can enjoy being back with all of their friends.  I have put the ideas for activities for today on the homework page.   Please get in touch with myself, Mrs Parker or Mrs Tinkler if there is anything we can help with.

Keep safe and well

Phonics

  • Try practising the following: s, a, t, p, i, n, m and also d with the actions.  Use your home-made flash cards or printed ones if you prefer.
  • It would be a really good idea to recap and practise all of the sounds to start this week.
  • You could put the flash cards onto your stairs and ask your child to go and stand on the correct sound. This could also be done in the same way on the lounge floor.
  • You could hide the sounds for them to find.
  • Make a pack of flashcards to play ‘snap’ to give your child the opportunity to identify and match sounds.

Understanding the World – An activity to try – Encouraging the use of our sense of smell or taste

A fun activity to try is to use our sense of smell or taste to identify objects.  This is a continuation from yesterday where the children had the chance to use their sense of touch.  Try popping some items (say 5 or 6) into cups, small plastic containers, sandwich bags or even (cut up) sections in an egg box would work.  It could be things like dried coffee granules, a tea-bag, toothpaste, bubble bath, fruit pieces such as strawberry and orange or anything you have that your child might recognise by smell.  Make sure they can’t peek and see if they can tell you what each item is.  Children often find it funny when they don’t like the smell and their reactions are normally great!  This also often encourages super observations from them.  Please feel free to note any observations and let us know.

You could try a similar idea with tasting different foods too if you prefer!  (Eyes covered of course) It’s great fun.  As adults we might find this a bit daunting but children are usually willing to try this and really enjoy it.

  • Questions to ask: Why did you like/dislike that smell/taste?  Which was the best/worst one? What would you put into the containers if you could choose?

Afternoon work idea:

We are starting our Houses and Homes Topic in History so we’d love it if you could draw or paint your house for us.  You could even make a model of it if you have lego or duplo bricks or a collage if you feel really arty today.

That’s all for today! Stay safe everyone.

Thank you all.  Mrs Burford and Mrs Tinkler
