Housman Class Update

A super week in Housman Class with children working hard across the different curriculum areas.

Maths and Orienteering

The children have been exploring our new orienteering interactive outdoor resource. Each ‘control point’ has a series of numbers and the children were asked to use the numbers to make their own improper fractions. The challenge was to make as many improper fractions as possible. Back in class, the children then converted the fractions to mixed number fractions.

Year 4 Multiplication Check

We are preparing the Year 4 pupils to complete the national multiplication check which will be carried out in early June. The expectation is that pupils will be able to rapidly recall multiplication facts up to the 12 X tables. The link below is a ‘replica’ of the tool which will be used to assess the pupils. Please can children practise the times tables they are not so confident with ( 6 X, 7 X and 8 X tables are the more tricky ones!).

Housman Update

We are in full swing of the new half-term with the children working incredibly hard.

Spanish

The children have been recapping the names of colours and body parts. We love a song in Housman class. The ‘colores’ song is a particular favourite and really helps the children remember key vocabulary.

Maths

We are continuing to focus on fractions and have been recapping what is meant by equivalent fractions. The use of a fraction wall is an excellent representation which really supports the children’s understanding.

Science

In Science, the children have been making electrical circuits using different components.

Reminder

We have been reminding the children of the importance of reading regularly. We do continue to monitor the reading logs and give out raffle tickets.

Housman Class Update

Welcome back to the Summer Term (although definitely not feeling all that ‘Summery’ today).

Hopefully you all had a good Easter break. It has been great to hear about what the children have been up to.

In Maths, we will be having a big focus learning about fractions. The children have already started learning about improper and mixed number fractions.

In English, the children have completed their own ‘list’ poems about the rainforest. They will be typing them up this week and adding their own illustrations ready for a class display.

PE sessions will now take place on a Wednesday and a Friday this term.

As always, any issues please contact one of the Housman Teaching Team and we will do our best to help.

A busy week!

Well, it’s been such a busy few weeks in school. This week, Key Stage 2 pupils had an opportunity to take part in First Aid training delivered by a representative from the Air Ambulance Service. The children learnt the important and life saving skill of giving CPR.

We have ended the week with all children taking part in a Fencing workshop. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity!

Housman Update

Last week was a very busy week in school with a Mother’s Day lunch and a World Book Day Parade taking place. We were so impressed with the different costumes on show so thank you for your efforts.

World Book Day

Last week was an incredibly busy week at Stoke-On-Tern ending with our World Book Day Parade. The outfits were absolutely fantastic so thank you for your efforts.

World Book Day

World Book Day is taking place on Thursday next week and the children will be taking part in class-based activities based on reading that day. On Friday 8th, we are encouraging the children to dress up as their favourite character from a book. Those children who do not wish to dress up as their favourite character can wear their school uniform as normal. For those children who have PE on Friday, we ask that they bring their PE kit in a separate bag to change into.

Any questions, please contact your child’s class teacher.

Housman Update 1/3/24

We’ve had a busy week in Housman Class and are so impressed with the behaviour of pupils. We have had a big focus on encouraging independence, striving to always do our best in every lesson and being a good friend to others. The children should be very proud of themselves this week- great team work in making our class a happy place to be!

The children have been learning to tell the time which can be one of those maths areas that can be quite tricky. Below is a link to some time games which will really consolidate the learning that has taken place.

Telling the Time games

We have also been having a big push on the children learning their times tables. The expectation is that all children will be able to recall all their times tables quickly. Below is a link to a resource we use in class most days.

Housman Update 2/2/24

Another busy week in Housman Class with the children working very hard across all subjects.

We continue to focus on multiplication in maths. The Year 5 children are focusing on multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers whilst the Year 4 pupils are mastering multiplying a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number.

Click here to practise multiplying by 10,100 and 1000

The children have also been developing their arithmetic skills and are performing well on the weekly arithmetic tests we have been carrying out in class.

In geography, the children have been learning about mountains around the world. They have used the laptops to carry out their own research and to find out interesting facts.

Have a wonderful weekend everybody!
