Computing – Programming

This term we are exploring programming/coding. We are using scratch to do so. Today Caradoc have learnt how to add a ‘sprite’, change a background and have began exploring the code to run movements on their sprite!

You can explore this at home using the link below:

https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/editor/?tutorial=getStarted

There are tutorials at the top of the page to demonstrate areas you can use!

PSHE Healthy Eating

We have been exploring food groups and healthy eating in PSHE, looking at better snacks than chocolate and crisps and healthier alternatives you can make at home.

We have previously made yoghurt bars, banana bread and fruit snacks and today we made a healthy alternative to shop bought or take away pizza!

Delicious! Something to try at home!

Spelling Banks

Throughout the year Year 2 and Year 3 will be learning the words off their year group spelling banks. We do this by referring to them regularly in lessons, using them in our writing and having spelling practice sessions.

The pupils have the spelling banks below in the front of their books and as part of their writing process will independently edit their writing work to check for spellings.

If you’re stuck for something to do – have a go at some spelling practice of the words below! Click on the websites for other spelling activities.

Writing – Compound Sentences

This week Caradoc have been learning about compound sentences. They have learnt what makes up a complete simple sentence and how two of these, along with a conjunction, can create a compound sentence.

A simple sentence is made up of a subject and verb (SV) or a subject, verb and object (SVO).

The cat sat.

The cat sat on the mat.

A compound sentence connects two simple sentences using a conjunction (and, but, if, when, because).

The cat sat on the mat while the dog played outside.

Year 2 Maths – Shape

In year 2, we have been exploring shape using different materials. We have first recapped the 2D shapes and then used this knowledge to build 3D shapes, learning their names and features like edges, faces and vertices.

Next Term Information (Spring 2: Beginning 23.02.26)

Spring 2’s topic is:

Click below to see our knowledge organiser for this term:

We will teach the children about the ‘goodies and baddies’ in popular culture. This project develops children’s knowledge of lyrics, graphic scores and how musical characteristics help convey different moods.

PE days are: Mondays and Thursdays

We still have a PGCE student Miss Lainton with us until Easter who will be teaching Caradoc alongside Miss Bennett across the week.

River Posters

This term Caradoc have been learning lots about Rivers. Today, in our final week of this term, we have started posters all about rivers. They have started by remembering, recording and researching everything to do with rivers they have learnt before creating a poster with all their learnt information.

Friday 9th January 2026 – Remote Learning Info

Please see details of the remote learning for Caradoc Class for Friday 9th January 2026 due to closure.

Below is an English, Maths and topic activity for completion.

English

Following on from Thursdays english lesson, the children should write a paragraph (5-6 sentences) about Rivers which could go into their newspaper article for Monday’s lesson. They can also come up with some ideas/options for a heading for their newspaper article about rivers.

On Thursday we discussed what things you would see in a newspaper article (3rd person writing, images, title, paragraphs, factual information) and what their newspaper article could be about – listed below.

Your newspaper article could be about:

  • A specific river e.g. River Thames, River Nile
  • A local river e.g. River Tern (Market Drayton) or River Severn (Shrewsbury)
  • Rivers in general where you could talk about multiple rivers and their feature

I have added some examples of Newspaper articles below that we looked at yesterday.

Maths

The maths activity will be a consolidation from last terms learning so they will have done it before. They can also practice times tables, using the songs on YouTube.

Year 2: Last term we looked at repeated addition. The children need to know that 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 is the same as 4 x 4. I have attached a worksheet where they have to use the image to complete the repeated addition and multiplication number sentences.

Year 3: Last term we looked at measure. I have added an activity where the children need to look at the jugs and estimate how much liquid is in the jug. This should be done in litres and millilitres where possible. They can choose one worksheet or all if they want to, the first is the simpliest and they get progresively harder. The answers are attached at the bottom.

Blists Hill Christmas Trip

We had a brilliant christmas trip this year to Blists Hill Victorian Town. The children loved immersing themselves in all things victorian. We saw horses and carts, visited the post office, the sweet shop, saw the fun fair rides, learnt about machines and jobs from that time.
