Please see details of the remote learning for Caradoc Class for Friday 9th January 2026 due to closure.

Below is an English, Maths and topic activity for completion.

English

Following on from Thursdays english lesson, the children should write a paragraph (5-6 sentences) about Rivers which could go into their newspaper article for Monday’s lesson. They can also come up with some ideas/options for a heading for their newspaper article about rivers.

On Thursday we discussed what things you would see in a newspaper article (3rd person writing, images, title, paragraphs, factual information) and what their newspaper article could be about – listed below.

Your newspaper article could be about:

A specific river e.g. River Thames, River Nile
A local river e.g. River Tern (Market Drayton) or River Severn (Shrewsbury)
Rivers in general where you could talk about multiple rivers and their feature

Maths

The maths activity will be a consolidation from last terms learning so they will have done it before. They can also practice times tables, using the songs on YouTube.

Year 2: Last term we looked at repeated addition. The children need to know that 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 is the same as 4 x 4. I have attached a worksheet where they have to use the image to complete the repeated addition and multiplication number sentences.

Year 3: Last term we looked at measure. I have added an activity where the children need to look at the jugs and estimate how much liquid is in the jug. This should be done in litres and millilitres where possible. They can choose one worksheet or all if they want to, the first is the simpliest and they get progresively harder. The answers are attached at the bottom.

Topic: Rivers

We have started a new topic of rivers. We are exploring different rivers and on Thursday we learnt about the source (where it begins) and mouth of a river (where it enters the sea).

Task: The children should write down 10 interesting facts about rivers using the information links provided below.

Spring Update 2026

We hope you will have a wonderful christmas and a happy new year but just before you go, we wanted to give you some updates for the spring term.

In caradoc, we will be having a PGCE placement student with us named Miss (Bryony) Lainton. She will be teaching alongside myself up until Easter.
PE will be on Monday and Thursday (staying the same)
Next term we will be learning all about rivers, with our main topic being ‘Flow’

Writing this week in Caradoc

As you are aware, we have been learning and Towers, Turrets and Tunnels this term in our writing. We have explored magical fairy tales such as Rapunzel and the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

We got into character as the Troll and wrote some very strongly worded letters of complaint to show how upset we were with the pesky goats!

Castles Projects – PLEASE HELP!

The children have been working really hard this term to learn all about Castles.

We have learnt:

what they look like
the different features
what they were used for
why castles were built in certain locations
famous castles across the world

To finish off the learning we have done, the children have two class projects to complete.

A PowerPoint presentation all about castles. These have already began but if you have any time to do research or find anything out at home, bring it in so they can add it to their work!
We are build a mini castle – much like the image below. For this, we are in need of cardboard so if you have any spare cardboard boxes, cereal boxes etc lying around at home please could you bring them in for us to use as soon as possible as we are starting these the end of next week!

Design and Technology – building castles

This term we have traded Pirates for Castles! We are exploring all the parts and features of castles. The children used what they had learnt and created their own in design and technology this week and then labelled the parts in their books.

Science this week!

The pupils have been looking at good hygiene practices, why we should use soap to wash our hands and bodies! They put oil on their hands, then compared the effects of cold water, cold water and soap, warm water and warm water and soap in getting their hands nice and clean!

They learn that the temperature of the water is less important, but found that using soap made a huge difference in the cleanliness of their hands afterwards. How interesting!

PIRATE DAY INFO

This week Caradoc Class are having a pirate dress up day, where they are encouraged to come dressed as a pirate so we can get stuck in with all things pirate!

This will take place on Friday 17th October and you will find further details in the letter below (this has also been sent home).

All about Pirates!

We are exploring pirates this term. We have learnt about historical pirates, explored the oceans and seas where they might be found and found out about pirate ships!

In D&T, the children made pirate ships and we tested them in water. The children were able to come up with success criteria and we voted as to whether we thought they would be successful! A great design and experiment!
