Where did all the pirates go?

This term our focus topic is PIRATES: LAND AHOY!

2014-land_doc_project_board_a4

We have been exploring pirate ships in art and drawing masts, sails and a crow’s nest.

In English, we have been learning how to write sentences with boats as our subject.

In geography, we have been researching the oceans and putting them on the map so we can label where pirates might be roaming in the ships.

PE

Caradoc enjoyed their first PE lesson back this week and worked hard on their introduction to games skills. Across the year they will advance their skills and tactics in basic games to support their development of competetive game play.

They worked as a team and following instructions well.

Autumn Term

We’re very much looking forward to welcoming all of our pupils back to school on Wednesday, as we begin a new academic year full of possibilities.

To help ease to the transition and strengthen our home-school partnerships, we warmly invite parents and carers to drop in for an informal chat with class teachers on Tuesday 2nd September (between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.). This is an opportunity to ask questions, share any thoughts ahead of the term or to just drop in and say hello!

Summer Reading

Dear Parents & Carers,
Today your child will have brought home a letter about an exciting summer reading challenge which we are taking part in as a school.
We are delighted to be joining the National Read-Aloud Challenge with Fonetti—a free, nationwide initiative designed to keep children reading and progressing during the summer. The challenge runs from 1st July to 31st August 2025 and is open to all UK children aged 5–15.
We would really like all of our pupils to be involved with the challenge – even our outgoing Year 6 children! We have set up a school account and you’ll find the QR code to link with the account on the attached flyer.
Please find a copy of the letter sent home today attached below.
If you need any help getting set up, please don’t hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher—we’ll be more than happy to help.
Mrs. Evans & Mrs. Brotherhood.

Fathers Day Breakfast

Caradoc, along with the rest of the school enjoyed their fathers day breakfast this morning! What an excellent turn out for everyone.

It was so lovely to see all of you!

The Roman Empire – Historical Artefacts

This term our focus is the Roman Empire. We are epxloring empires and emporors from the Roman period, including what everyday life was like, what they wore, jobs they did, what their homes looked like, what areas they conquered and what they ate.

We have explored artefacts from the Roman’s, learning all about their lives and the things they would have used daily. It was very interesting!

The children worked hard to learn all they could about every day life and then record and explain what they had learnt about a select few items.

Maths water challenge

To end the half term, Caradoc recapped and revisited what they had learnt about fractions – but with a little bit of a splash!

They had to fill up their containers within the time limit (and with some added challenges) and at the end, estimate what fraction of water they had collected. They worked well as a team and there was so much discussion around why they thought it was a particular fraction they had collected and what fraction they had left to fill – some great revisit learning.

PSHE – Celebrating our relationships

This term, Caradoc class have been learning all about relationships in PSHE. We have explored family relationships, friendship, keeping ourselves safe online, being a global citizen and celebrating our relationships!

They learnt lots about themselves and the people around them and why its important to create and maintain healthy relationships.

Below you can see them creating a flag of their friendships in celebration.

English this Term – Tidy!

This term in English our class book is ‘Tidy’ by Emily Gravett

We wanted to get inspired and involved so we put ourselves in our lead character’s ‘paws’ and began a tidy up mission in our outdoor areas!

We can’t wait to get involved in our new class book and find out what happens in our story.

Botanical Art – Weaving

Last week, we started our topic ‘Botanical Art’ and create some art by weaving natural materials onto a DIY loom!

The children learnt how to create a loom using natural materials and could explain waft and weft and how to create a weave. They looked beautiful!
