Autumn Term

We’re very much looking forward to welcoming all of our pupils back to school on Wednesday, as we begin a new academic year full of possibilities.

To help ease to the transition and strengthen our home-school partnerships, we warmly invite parents and carers to drop in for an informal chat with class teachers on Tuesday 2nd September (between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.). This is an opportunity to ask questions, share any thoughts ahead of the term or to just drop in and say hello!

Tag Rugby Celebrations

A huge congratulations to the Tag Rugby team who came second out of ten teams in a tournament at Market Drayton Junior School.

The team demonstrated, not only their incredible skills, but also a resilient attitude, excellent sportsmanship and brilliant teamwork.  The conditions weren’t the greatest but they assure me that they have warmed up now!

Well done team I am very proud of you all.

Housman Update

We’ve made it to the end of a very long and busy half term!  I have been particularly impressed at how hard Housman class have been working and how the children have risen to the new challenges of their new academic year.

This week, the children have been looking at time zones and climate zones in Geography.  The children used maps and keys to locate different climate and time zones. They enjoyed working out what time it would be in different countries.

We finished the week with our celebration assembly, presenting our Star Pupil awards.  This is always such a tricky decision as there are so many deserving children.  This term, Demi has earnt the Star Pupil award for always demonstrating impeccable behaviour, contributing to all her lessons and producing work that is always to the best of her ability. Well done Demi.

I hope you all have a wonderful, restful break and I look forward to hearing all about it when we are back.

Hockey Tournament

This week, a team of six year five children attended a hockey tournament at Maurice Chandler.  They played six matches against different schools in the local area.  The children worked incredibly as a team and were really supportive of each other.  They demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship. I am very proud of their attitude and manners throughout the tournament.

The team finished first on the pitch they played on and fifth out of eight teams, overall. It was wonderful to see such talent in our school!  Well done to the children who took part and a big thank you to Gary for giving up his time to help and support us.

Dutton Update

I can’t believe we are at the end of the Spring term!  I must admit it is lovely having the sun shining a bit more this week and the lighter mornings and evenings.

The children have been working really hard completing their assessments this week.  It has been amazing seeing the progress the children have made since the start of the academic year.  I am so proud of them all.

It hasn’t been all work and no play though!  In Art, the children focused on motifs with repeated pattern using wooden block printing. It’s great to see the children using their creativity and expressing their individuality.  The children also took part in a spring treasure hunt.  They had to work together to solve clues to unlock a bag of goodies.

I hope you all have a wonderful break.  See you in April.

Dutton update

This week in Geography we made a class water cycle.  We have been observing our water cycle each day to see if the precipitation has been collected in the cup we positioned in the middle of it. Next week, we will de construct the water cycle and see what changes have occurred.

 

In our art lessons the children have created their own printing templates based on animals.  We will use these to print with in our next lesson.  The children also enjoyed practicing their clay skills.

 

There is no maths homework this week.  If your child would like to practice their times table skills they can use the following websites.

Cross Country

A huge well done to all the children who took part in the cross country competition yesterday.  The children showed such resilience and really cheered each other on to complete the course.  The distance is quite something when they aren’t used to running that far and over varying terrain!

We had lots of high placed individual children which was great to see.  Unfortunately, due to being a small school it is hard to compete against the larger schools in terms of having the volume of runners to make up a team for the team competitions. However, the year 3 team finished 3rd over all and the year 4 team also finished 3rd out of 7 schools.  I am very proud of everyone who took part, I’m sure they were very tired Thursday evening!

Dutton Class Update

What a jam packed week! From live STEM lessons to becoming poets on national poetry day we have certainly been busy!

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to take part in a live lesson organised by the NFU. It informed the children of where all the ingredients were sourced to create a  tandoori chicken dish.  Including the butchering of a chicken, milling wheat for the flat bread and a robot milking cows!  The children also got to see an impromptu calf entering the world! The session was very interactive with the chef asking the children different questions.

Thursday was national poetry day and the children wrote a poem based on a subject of their choice.  They began by creating a word bank around their subject before creating their final poem.  The class were all very intrigued by my poem about cups of tea!!

Tennis session

The children have had a lovely morning taking part in a tennis session with Coach Oli. They will be bringing home a flier with more information about an open day in Market Drayton this weekend.
