This week’s homework is a preparation task. More details can be found on the document below. If your child has lost this document (which was sent home today), they can use a piece of paper to complete the task.

Pupils also need to think of some good ideas for their end of year exhibition. We will be completing our plab=ns in school next week.

Homework Friday May 1st

Homework was given out yesterday, along with marked homework from the previous week.

Maths Year 6:

There are only two reasoning questions for the pupils to answer this weekend. I have asked the children to show all of the steps in their working out. This should be handed in on Tuesday morning. Some pupils asked for some optional extra homework (well done!) – this can be handed in at any time.

English Year 5 & 6:

The pupils have been asked to think of two strong points that support the argument FOR school uniform and two that support an argument AGAINST it. Bullet points are fine, as we are going to use these points to write a ‘discussion’ text in class next week. This homework was set in the red writing target books and is due in on Tuesday.

Homework Friday 24th April

Maths – Year 6

The children have been given all of their mock maths papers back. We have reviewed and discussed the reasoning papers in class. I have sent their arithmetic papers home for review. I have highlighted the questions that should be prioritised and I have attached a few practice questions to be completed Please could the re-worked tests and practice questions be returned by Monday.

English – Year 5 & 6

The children did a cracking job of their apostrophe sentence homework last week but a little confusion with apostrophes for possession remains. This week’s homework gives the children another chance to review apostrophes and become more secure with their use.

I have also included a short task about ‘determiners’, which was something that the children wanted to review from the grammar paper.

Please could this work be completed and handed in on Tuesday at the latest.

Optional additional work/support in these areas can be found here:

Maths and English homework should be handed in on Monday morning.

Maths target books.

All Year 6 maths target books have been marked and returned. Most children have a few questions to review and correct. These are highlighted in orange. Target books can be handed in whenever the pupils have completed the tasks – before Thursday next week, if possible.

All the best,

Mrs. E.

Homework Friday 20th March

English:

All pupils have a short English homework task to complete in their writing target books. I would like to collect these in on, or before, Tuesday next week. Additionally, we have produced a draft biography of an inspirational person. I have asked the children to take this home over the weekend and annotate changes or additions that will make their work even better. We will be creating our final version next week.

Maths:

Year 6 children have been working on their target maths independently throughout the week. I would like to collect all target books in on Monday. Year 5 pupils will have maths homework set by Mrs. Brotherhood.

Homework Friday 13th March

Maths:

Our Year 6 pupils have been working hard on their individual maths targets – they have even set targets of their own! Our most recent assessments have shown not only an increase in accuracy in their maths work but also an increase in confidence, which is fabulous to see! Last week, we were working algebraically; working out missing digits and functions. This week, we have been reviewing area and perimeter.

This week’s homework is to continue working on individual maths targets. I would like the maths target books handed back in with tasks and/or corrections complete, on or before Wednesday of next week. (Year 5 have maths homework set by Mrs. Brotherhood.)

English:

All pupils in Darwin have a writing target to work on. There is a short task to compete. Pupils need to visit the website using their QR Code – if this doesn’t work, use a search engine to find out about the target: Search “[target] Year 6” which should yield a lot of useful websites. Once your child has learned about their target, they should complete the short task in their writing target book. I would like this handed in on Monday.

Bonus Optional Homework!

Maths:

If you want to review algebra, you could answer questions 1 to 3 in the attached booklet. You are more than welcome to have a go at some of the other questions in the booklet, should you wish to do so!

Maths Homework – Year 6.

(Year 5 will have been given maths homework by Mrs. Brotherhood.) Year 6 pupils have had their target books updated in light of our recent assessment. I have chosen a target for each pupil to work on and have supplied some questions for them to complete. The children have also identified their own target to work on. Resources to support this can easily be found online. I have included a few useful sites for revision below:

Homework Friday 16th January

There are two tasks this week:

Task 1 is a maths task (Year 5 children will have a task set by Mrs. Brotherhood). The Year 6 task focuses on consolidating our ability to order and round decimals. It was sent home on paper today and is due in on Monday morning.

Task 2 is a preparation task. The children (Year 5 & 6) need to research who ‘Highwaymen’ were. They have brought home a prompt sheet to help them to find relevant information. The children do not need to create a presentation or any extended writing, notes will do. What is important is that they come to the lesson with prior knowledge about highwaymen. This homework is due in on Wednesday.
