This week, our homework focus has returned to maths. The homework books have been sent home today. This homework should be completed by Monday. Thanks!

If anyone wants some additional maths practice, see the clip below! This would be particularly useful for pupils who are still becoming secure with short division. Children can use their maths homework book to complete the activities in the video, should they wish to.

Year 5 children have been given maths homework by Mrs. Brotherhood.

Year 6 pupils have target maths homework set. They also need to check last week’s homework and see if there is any ‘re-thinking’ to do. This homework is due in on Monday.

As usual, Mrs. Brotherhood will have provided the Year 5 pupils with homework. The Year 6 pupils have had their maths target homework books updated and have brought those home today.

For pupils who want to do even more homework, the third week of “16 weeks to SATs” is available below. This happens to be some pupils’ current target too!

16 Weeks to SATs (Arithmetic) is a completely free weekly tuition video guiding pupils and parents  through the arithmetic test and all the necessary strategies, tips and considerations needed to score 40 out of 40 on the KS2 arithmetic test.

Each weekly video will be perfect to compliment teaching in the classroom, support revision at home, intervention in school or just general learning. Delivered by Andrew (author of SATs Like a Ninja and experienced Y6 teacher), each video will aim to build pupil knowledge and skill in a sequenced / logical order, building towards SATs in May.

Darwin Class English Homework – Year 5 & 6

In English this week, we have started to write an informative text about the Windrush Generation. It is estimated that around 500,000 people living in the UK are part of the Windrush Generation, who arrived in England between 1948 and 1971.

Our homework this week is to find out about one of these famous Windrush, or children of the Windrush, Generation figures. You will need to make notes which enable you to write a short biography in our lesson. Your notes should include important dates, childhood events and events and achievements in later life. You will need to bring your notes into school on Monday for our English lesson:

Mona Baptiste – singer (1928-1993)

Sir Lenny Henry – actor, comedian, singer, television presenter and writer.

Levi Roots – reggae musician, television personality, celebrity chef, author and businessman.

Sir Trevor McDonald – British newsreader and journalist.

Floella Benjamin – actress, presenter and broadcaster.

Maths Homework – Year 6.

This week, we have been getting to grips with multiplying fractions and with dividing fractions by whole numbers. We have spent a lot of time understanding the reasoning involved with these calculations and developing an understanding of why the calculation ‘trick’ works. Our homework this week is to apply the ‘trick’ to multiply fractions. This short video explains the ‘trick’. The sheet of questions can be found below that.

Year 6 Maths Homework. 

We had a go at some maths assessments this week and spent some time looking at our errors and planning what we are going to revisit and revise during maths club next term (more info to follow!). We found that many of us made errors, at some point, when completing multiplication (long) and that it was something we could usefully revisit often.

This week’s maths homework is to complete the multiplication questions sent home today, using the formal column method (NO CALCULATORS ALLOWED!). For those of you who want to brush up on this method, this video is a very clear demonstration of how the method works:

The children have until Wednesday to complete this homework; it may be a good idea to split the task into chunks as regularly revisiting work helps pupils’ learning.

Year 5 & 6 English Homework:

This week, we have also completed some reading assessments; reading is assessed at the end of Key Stage two through pupils’ performance in reading comprehensions. This week’s English homework is to read the following text and then answer the accompanying questions. Remember – all the answers are in the text somewhere! Give yourself 20 minutes to complete this task.
