Dutton Class

Well, everyone made it!

It was lovely to round off the last week with a move up afternoon, talent show, a party and even an ice cream van appearance!

I am really proud of all the children who stood up on stage and performed during the talent show.  It takes incredible guts and bravery to do that and they all excelled at their chosen act.  Our whole class song was amazing and the children were brilliant at remembering all the actions.

We had a little party yesterday to celebrate all the children’s achievements over the year and that was rounded up perfectly with the ice cream arriving.  Great timing with this beautiful weather.

I have loved teaching Dutton class this year and it has been magical watching the children grow and develop, not just in their learning but  as individuals.  I am very glad that I get to continue to witness this in Housman next year.

I hope you have a wonderful summer, have lots of fun and stay safe.

See you in September.

Art and Design in Dutton this week

The children finally had the chance to paint their clay tiles.  The children chose their colour palettes based on Islamic colour schemes. They will be bringing them home as soon as they are dry.

The children also took part in experiments relating to simple machines in design technology.  They tried moving different items in boxes with wheels and without on different surfaces.  They also built an inclined plane to see how this helped with lifting items up high.  The children drew a diagram of their experiment and what they discovered.  They concluded that wheels and inclined planes were invented to help make physical lifting easier.

Dutton Class Update

This week in art, we have continued looking at Islamic Art.  The children have been experimenting with clay relief sculptures and using this method to create a 3d tile.  The children used the clay skills, slip and scoring to get their 3d designs to stick securely to their tile.  The end results look amazing and we are patiently waiting for them to dry so we can paint them!

The children have been putting their persuasive writing skills to the test this week in English.  They have been writing an invite to a soiree and persuading someone to buy their giraffe themed merchandise! The giraffe theme is linked to our book Zeraffa the giraffa.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Dutton Update

What beautiful weather we are having! I hope it continues for the school fayre on Friday.  As the weather is so warm, please make sure your child has their water bottle in school so they can stay hydrated and a hat if they need to wear one at break and lunch times.  If you would like your child to wear sun cream, please apply this before school.  We will still be doing PE as normal but we will be having more regular water and shade breaks.

In Maths, we are continuing to focus on time.  This week we have looked at the difference between am and pm and roman numerals.  Time can be a difficult concept to grasp so the more practice your child gets at home the better.  There are lots of different online games which can be helpful.  You can find some here Measuring Games (topmarks.co.uk)

Dutton Update

It’s lovely to have a bit of sunshine this week, fingers crossed it stays around for the summer fayre next week.

This week in maths, we have been looking at time.  The children have been working on telling the time past and to to the nearest five minutes.  Dutton have been recording the time in the digital format and how they would say it, for example 07.20 and twenty past 7.  I have attached a link to a game we have been playing below.

Have a good weekend,

Science in Dutton

In Science we have continued looking at electrical circuits.  This weeks focus was on switches.  The children created a simple circuit using a lamp, switch and cell. They were then tasked with making their own switches and seeing if it they could still make the lamp light up.  The children then wrote an explanation about the circuit they created and how they made it work.

Welcome back to Dutton!

I hope everyone had a wonderful half term.  It’s been lovely listening to the children share their experiences with the class since they’ve been back.

This week the children have been thinking about D day.  Dutton created pictures in Art using water colours and silhouettes to remember D day.  They also had an assembly to learn about what D day was and why it is important to take the time to reflect.

The children have maths homework this week which is finding a fraction of an amount.  We have done lots of this in class, using a bar model method to find the answer.  The children are very familiar with this method.

Have a lovely weekend.

Dutton update!

This week in PE, the children have been practicing for sports day.

Some of the children read a poem or played their recorders in a final assembly for Mrs Vaughan.  It was Mrs Vaughan’s last day today and the children will be sad to see her go.

I hope you all have a wonderful half term.
