Welcome back!

autumn-2-2022-Dutton curriculum

Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term. Please see above for the information regarding what Dutton class are learning this term.

The children have all settled back into school well.  This week they were treated to a wonderful performance from a folk band who were telling incredible stories through music.

I will continue to send homework home on a Friday to be returned by the following Wednesday.  This is always retrieval practice which means the children should be able to complete it independently, it is not designed to be additional work for parents or carers as I know how busy everyone is. Spellings will still be taught explicitly during the school day.  It would be brilliant if you could listen to your child read as much as possible at home to progress their reading.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with me via the school office.

Fire Safety Talk

We were lucky enough to have The Shropshire Fire and Rescue come and chat to us on Tuesday.  The children enjoyed hearing about how to keep themselves and their family safe in different scenarios.  They fortunate to have the opportunity to try on the helmets used historically in the service and compare them to the helmets used today.  The children even went on parade as new recruits in the fire service!

Happy Friday!

This week we have practiced our weaving techniques in art and enjoyed finishing off our instruction potion writing in English.  In maths we are looking at the 4 times table and numbers to 100.

Your child will be bringing home maths homework this afternoon.  This will be a weekly activity which will recap what the children have been learning the previous week. The activity will be designed for your child to be able to complete it independently. The homework will be required to be handed in  by the following Wednesday.

We would be grateful if you would continue to listen to your child read as often as possible.  We are currently enjoying reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe as our class book. We currently have a book fayre in school if you would like to have a look for any new books.

As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Welcome to Dutton Class

Welcome to a new academic year!  We are very lucky to have had some work done on our classroom so it is looking super smart! The children have all made a super start to year 3 and are settling into our new classroom. Myself and Miss Farley are very excited for the year a head.

This term we are will be doing swimming on a Wednesday and tag rugby on a Friday.  Please can you make sure your child has the appropriate kit, long hair is tied up and jewellery removed.

We are having a spelling focus in school this term therefore your child will not be bringing spellings home to learn. However, your child will be bringing home a reading book of their choice from our library. Miss Farley and I are monitoring that the books are suitably matched to the individual. We are keeping our reading scheme books in school for focused group reading sessions.

Dutton class are very lucky to have Dr Roberts delivering their science lessons, this term they are focusing on nutrition and skeletons.

Some other subjects we are looking at this term are:

  • Pre-historic art- Art
  • Stone Age- History
  • The Holy Trinity- RE

The children will also be having weekly music, computing and PSHE lessons along with their core lessons of English and Maths.

If there is anything you would like to discuss or have any questions about please feel free to get in touch. Have a lovely weekend.

A Date for your Diary!

World Book Day is on its way!

World Book Day will be celebrated nationally on Thursday 7th March. We will be holding a series of book related events for pupils to share our love of reading. On Friday 8th March, children (and staff) can come into school dressed as a book character.

Here’s a link to the World Book Day website, which has some great ideas for easy to put together costumes:
