Hawkstone Class Update

This week, as part of our topic ‘School Days’, the children looked at photos of our school from the past and looked at how it has changed over time. We discussed the oldest part of our school and looked at photos from the late 1800s to present day. We then put the photos in order from the past to present day in a timeline.

The children had a great start to the Summer term and enjoyed sharing news with their friends from their Easter holidays. This week the children have worked hard to write a list poem about space. They explored different poems and created a shooting star. Today the children put all their ideas into their own list poem.

Hawkstone Class Update

The children have had lots of Easter fun this week including making Easter nests, an Easter egg hunt and an Easter bonnet parade. Well done Hawkstone Class for a fantastic Spring term! Have a lovely holiday!

This half term the children have been creating music based on fairy tales. This week the children played music to the story of Little Red Riding Hood. They followed a conductor and played music to represent each character.

This week the children had a visit from the school nurse who taught them all about the importance of looking after our teeth. We met Dennis the dragon and the children all took turns to brush his teeth. The children then learnt about food that is good for our teeth and food that is not good for our teeth. The children then worked together to play a game of identifying healthy and unhealthy food and drink.

This week the children had the opportunity to learn the skills they need to play tennis. They were taught skills by a coach and all enjoyed trying out their new skills with their friends.

The half term the children are looking at seasonal change. This week the children focused on measuring the wind. The children have been using a windsock to record the wind to see how it changed over the week. We then used this information to create a block graph. The reception children enjoyed creating their own windsocks and tested them out.

Hawkstone class have had a fantastic start to the half term. As part of our English lessons the children learnt about museums. To help further their understanding the reception children created their own museum including fossils using salt dough and role played being in a museum. The year 1 children then wrote fantastic poems about the objects that might be found in a museum. Hawkstone Class Update

As part of our PSHE lessons the children have been learning about dreams and goals. This week the children looked at achieving the small goal of making a jam sandwich. As a class we thought about the smaller stepping stones needed for success. The children followed instructions to make a jam sandwich and then enjoyed eating them.

Well done for another great week Hawkstone class! This half term the children have been learning about percussion instruments linked to Chinese New Year. Today the children explored playing different percussion instruments while following a conductor. They listened to each other brilliantly and stopped and started when the conductor signalled to them.
