Welcome!

I have had a wonderful first day in Hawkstone Class and the children have all been very helpful and welcoming. I am really looking forward to working with the children and getting to know each of them over the next few months.

As you know, Hawkstone Class will be taught by myself and Mrs Smith. Mrs Smith will be starting after half-term so for the next 2 weeks on a Thursday and Friday, a teacher called Miss Davis will be teaching the class ( Mrs Smith already had a pre-arranged trip oversees to see family before accepting the job share position).

Myself and Mrs Smith are very excited to be working together and already have lots of exciting things planned over the coming months.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thank you

Mrs Turner

English

This week in English the children have been learning about poetry linked to the theme of ponds. The children have learnt about ponds and the wildlife that might be found in a pond.

Year 1 – During Thursday’s lesson the children used adjectives to describe what they might find in a pond. Please use the lined template to write sentences about what might be found in a pond using adjectives e.g. In a pond you will find scaly fish. On a pond you will find beautiful lily pads floating.

Hawkstone Class Update!

This week has been a busy week with lots of special events taking place. The children learnt about Remembrance Day and why it is an important event. Today the children enjoyed wearing their own clothes and raising money for Children in Need. We also had the fantastic opportunity to watch a show Called ‘Rick Whittington’ which they all enjoyed and got lots of giggles!

To find out more about what the children will be learning about this half term, please see the overviews below.

Hawkstone Class Update

The children have had a great first week back! The reception children are very excited to be taking home their first reading books this week. The children each have a book matched to the phonic sounds that they have been taught and they have also all chosen a book to read for pleasure with an adult at home. Please bring in phonic reading books everyday to be read with an adult in school. Both books will be changed every Friday.

This week in English we have been learning a poem called ‘There Are No Such Things As Monsters’. Today the year 1 children bravely stood in front of the reception children and took turns to read a verse from the poem. They did an amazing job and are all fantastic readers!

Hawkstone Class Update

This half term the children have enjoyed exploring in our forest area. We explored what happens during Autumn and this week the children learnt about hibernation. We searched for signs of animal homes and thought about what animals we might find in a woodland habitat. The children then worked together to make homes for different animals from minibeasts to birds and hedgehogs to rabbits. Great team work Hawkstone class!

Hawkstone Class Update

This week the children have continued to look at the story The Gingerbread Man. We read the story and had a think about how the story could end differently. Rather than the fox eating the gingerbread man at the end of the story, the children thought about how else he could cross the river. The children worked in groups to build bridges to help the gingerbread man to get across.

Hawkstone Class Update

Hawkstone class have had a great start to the Autumn term. The children have been working hard in phonics and the reception children have been learning phase 2 of the Little Wandle phonics scheme. They are recognising lots of new sounds and are learning how to form them when writing. We have also been looking at the story The Gingerbread Man. The children enjoyed making their own gingerbread men and decorating them. For more information about what the children are learning about this half term, please see the overviews below.

Autumn Term

We’re very much looking forward to welcoming all of our pupils back to school on Wednesday, as we begin a new academic year full of possibilities.

To help ease to the transition and strengthen our home-school partnerships, we warmly invite parents and carers to drop in for an informal chat with class teachers on Tuesday 2nd September (between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.). This is an opportunity to ask questions, share any thoughts ahead of the term or to just drop in and say hello!

Hawkstone Class Update

It’s been an exciting week in Hawkstone class. On Tuesday the children arrived at school and found out that our eggs had hatched! The children were so excited to see the chicks and watched them in their incubator. Later in the week the children looked at healthy foods and got to chop, mash and peel a variety of fruits and vegetables. They enjoyed tasting them and deciding which ones they liked and disliked.

Hawkstone Class Update

This week children brought in photos and spoke about their pets. They all enjoyed talking about what their pets eat, where they sleep and how they take care of them. They were confident when talking in front of the class and I was very impressed by how well everyone sat, listened and asked questions. This half half term the children have been learning about the artist James Rizzi. This week they created their own piece of art in the style of James Rizzi and did a wonderful job. Well done Hawkstone Class!
