This week at nursery the children have been exploring the stories “The Hungry Caterpillar and What the Ladybird Heard”. They have made caterpillars from play dough and measured who had the biggest and who had the smallest. They have made some beautiful imprints of flowers on dry clay, that we hope to paint and hang in Mrs Edwards nursery garden next week. The children have also made some lovely ladybird sun catchers that our brightening up our window every day.

The older children have continued to listen and blossom during the in-house talk boost sessions, Mrs Edwards and Tizzy have been very impressed with their good sitting skills.

The children have loved exploring the nursery garden, looking for mini beasts and with the help from Ruben and his butterfly catching net the children caught and set free one colourful butterfly.

The nursery children have hit the ground running this week and have got their hands muddy in our new Summer topic “Sunshine and Sunflowers”.  We have share the story “Errol’s Garden” and spoke about how to care for plants, the life cycle of a flower seed and what type of plants/vegetables the children would like to grow in the nursery garden with Mrs Edwards. They have each planted at nursery and taken home some sunflowers seeds, that we hope will soon blossom and grow over the next coming weeks. They have taken part in some outdoor observational painting and painted some beautiful “Bluebells”, although a lot of children from Hawkstone class did query why they where called “Bluebells” and not “Purplebells” since they’re purple.

The nursery children have taken part in numerous Little Wandle sessions and are becoming more and more confident with the initial sounds of words, they have loved experimenting with their voice sounds especially singing fast and with a growl. They have learnt the rhyme “Mary,Mary Quite Contrary” and have completed their Talk Boost cycle ending with first, next and last (then) steps of a sequence/routine and made some jam sandwiches following the instructions of what the children believed needed to come first, next and last.

They’ve also taken part in a lot of fine motor activities and have shown fantastic scissor control and letter formation. And as you can tell from their dusty faces and not so white T-shirts they have loved every minute of the beautiful weather outside playing in the mud kitchen, sand box, tyres and on the big field.

This week the children have had a lot of Easter fun and more free play than I could handle.  They have been learning our song of the week “I’m a Spring Chicken and I’m having ball”. They have made some beautiful Easter crafts and cards. They took part in the schools Easter Bonnet parade and were beautifully behaved in the hall.

Congratulations to Felix for winning the class and the school overall boy champion bonnet, I hope you enjoy your box of goodies. Amazing effort from everyone, you all went above and beyond parent duties.

The children have settled back into nursery life with a bang and have hit the ground running. This half term the children will be exploring the new class topics “Starry Night and Winter Wonderland”.  We have shared the story “Peace at Last”,  comparing day and light and exploring what happens when they fall asleep.  We have also shared the story of the “Gruffalo’s Child” and the children made some homemade “Snow Dough”.

This week the children have been exploring the story of “Goldilocks and The Three Bears”.  They were introduced to the story through a story sack containing items from the story, and I think the blonde curl wig threw them a little because they struggled to guess what the story might be. After sharing the story with the children they made some porridge for snack and yummy bear treats using different fruit and raisins to make a bear face on their bread.  The children have also focused on the number three this week linking to the story and have explored positional language using teddy bears. The children have made some lovely bear crafts. The older children have been experimenting with marks in layers of porridge oats, they focused on the letters from their name cards.

This week the children have been exploring the story of “The Three Little Pigs”.  They were provided with a variety of resources and encouraged to build dens and houses to keep the pigs safe from the wolf.  The children were also challenged to build towers using the resources to count how many can be stacked before the towers fell. The rhymes of the week have been “Where going to build a house” and “1 little pig went to the market, two little pigs stayed at home….”.

The children have also been working hard to improve and develop their gross motor control and have taken part in numerous activities such as wire threading sand cotton bud picture art.

The nursery children have hit the ground running this half term and have spent the past two weeks learning about the festival of Diwali, how to keep safe on Bonfire Night and the importance of wearing Poppies for Remembrance Sunday. Although a little young to understand the full concept of this occasions, the children have watched some education videos on CBeebies and have made lovely Diva lamps and beautiful Poppies for the nursery window.

The children have began the new Winter topic “Fairytales and Sparkle and Shine”, we will be looking at “Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man, The Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and The Three Bears” over the coming weeks.

The older children have begun the Phrase 2 Phonic sounds with Little Wandle, sound of the week is “S”. The children have taken part in numerous listening and sound activities and are slowly developing a “keen ear” to help them recognise the sounds in every day words.

The younger children have settled back into nursery routine really well, they are all very keen to participate during circle time and are developing their singing voices.
