Computers and networks are increasingly becoming part of our everyday lives. At Stoke-on-Tern school, we want our pupils to be competent and safe users of these technologies.
At Stoke-on-Tern, we teach computing using the ‘Teach Computing’ curriculum, which was developed for the National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE).
Our curriculum is inclusive, ambitious and research informed. Computing is taught within four main themes: Computers & Networks; Programming; Data & Information and Creating Media. Units are ordered for progression across the school age ranges and sequences of lessons are delivered via twelve pedagogical principles:

Each teaching unit has assessment opportunities included, which teachers use in order to assess what children know and have remembered and to plan next steps in learning.
The document below details our computing curriculum for 2022/23. Pages one to four show overviews for the unit plans. (Clicking the blue hyperlink will take you to the more detailed planning, which class teachers use and adapt as appropriate.) Pages five to eight show the progression of knowledge within each of the main themes.
Our Computing curriculum
This curriculum works alongside, and compliments, the PSHE curriculum, where concepts such as digital citizenship are also addressed.

If you have any questions about our computing curriculum, or other concerns about e-literacy or e-safety, please contact Mrs. Evans, who will be happy to support you.
‘The real power of interactive technologies is that they let us learn in ways that aren’t otherwise possible or practical.’
