PE at Stoke On Tern
At Stoke On Tern we believe in promoting and educating our pupils about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle. We believe it is important that all our pupils are given equal opportunities to experience a variety of sports to enhance life-long fitness and positive life choices. PE can challenge and promote self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem solving. It can teach children to manage their emotions and to cope with success and failure in competitive, individual and team based physical activities.
How do we teach PE at Stoke On Tern?
At Stoke On Tern PE is taught by class teachers, PE specialists and qualified external coaches. We follow the national curriculum to plan lessons which are engaging and age appropriate and are supported by a clear skills and knowledge progression. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children. The lessons are structured to provide a range of sports experiences during which every child participates to develop their knowledge and skills through competitive, team and individual sports. We use specialist equipment to enhance our teaching and to give pupils new experiences. Through our local links, we are able to support pupils so they can flourish at sports in which they have a particular interest or flair. Children with additional needs are provided with appropriate support to enable them to take part and gain confidence in skills, understanding and motivation.
We use pupil voice to ensure that all pupils are actively engaged and take ownership of their learning.
